It’s really important to be vigilant and keep an eye out for cockroaches on your property, so that you can deal with them as soon as you notice an issue. So, what signs should you be looking out for?

• Droppings – these can vary in appearance from tiny dark specks to easily distinguishable little pellets, and they are often one of the first signs of an ongoing cockroach problem in a property.
• Unpleasant odour – another big indicator of a cockroach issue is a foul smell. Often described as musty, this scent will become stronger as the number of cockroaches’ increase.
• Shed skins – cockroaches shed their skins many times as they grow, and these skins are often found in the places where they take shelter.
• Smear marks – in areas where there is a lot of damp, cockroaches will often leave brown smears as they move around. These are most often seen on horizontal surfaces and areas where the wall and floor meet.
• Egg capsules – these capsules are reddish-brown to dark-brown in colour and range from 5 to 13 mm. Each capsule can hold up to 50 eggs, so it’s vital that you take action as soon as you spot any.
