Mice are one of the most common pests seen in the UK, and chances are you or someone you know has had personal experience dealing with this particular pest problem. There are a number of different warning signs that point towards there being a mouse problem on your property. These are:
– Droppings: mouse droppings are small and dark, and appear in concentrated amounts. They are most common in cupboards or around skirting.
– Grease marks: dark smears on floors, walls and skirting are caused by the mice brushing past. They can give you some clue of the routes they are taking around your property.
– Scratching noises: mice are nocturnal, so you are more likely to hear them at night. If you hear scratching sounds coming from under your floorboards or within your walls, that does point to a mouse problem.
– Urine pillars: these small mounds tend to occur in severe infestations. They are caused by body grease combining with dirt and urine, and they can be up to 4cm in height.
– Nests: mice make their nests from easy to shred material, and they can be found in places such as cavity walls, under floorboards, in cupboards and even behind fridges and other electrical appliances.
– Smell: mice urinate a lot, and that urine has a distinct, ammonia-like scent. The stronger the smell, the closer you are to the mice – so be sure to mention this to your mouse removal expert to help them pinpoint the location of the mice.
– Tracks: it’s much easier to spot the tracks that mice leave in dusty areas, as footprints will be clear to see. You can also scatter talcum powder or flour on the floor for the same effect.
