Signs of bees on your property

How do you know if you have a bee’s nest on your property? There are a number of key signs that point towards it, such as:

  • Seeing bees moving to and from one particular area of your property in a steady flow
  • See a swarm of bees in one area. This can be a very large number, which can be frightening
  • Hearing bees through a wall. This is often when they have established a nest in a cavity, such as a wall, attic or roof

How we remove honeybees

The most common reports of bees are of the honeybee, which can swarm causing some alarm to the public, although they will not sting unless provoked. Let’s make one thing clear: here at Town and Country Pests, we love honeybees! They are vital to us in many ways, as they pollinate many of the crops we need for food. They also pollinate many of the trees and flowers that make Essex such a beautiful place. So naturally, we want to preserve their numbers where we can. That’s why, if they are not posing significant danger, we would not recommend destroying these. Where possible, our beehive removal team will collect the swarm and deliver them to a local bee-keeper who can add them to their hives for future honey production.

Masonry bee removal

The masonry or mortar bee, as its name suggests, can burrow into soft stonework, but tend to look for existing holes to lay their eggs in. These bees are recognised as causes of damage to property. They have been known to sting on occasion too, although this isn’t too common. Our masonry bee control team have a number of solutions up their sleeve, and will be able to remove the bees from your property quickly – and then take action to make sure that they do not return. We do recommend that, when possible, this work should be scheduled for the late autumn or winter months. This is when the bees are less active.
